What an affiliate link is
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That's it: that's the whole financial arrangement.
What we will never do
- We never accept payment for coverage.
- We never rate a product because of its commission.
- We never include a product just because an affiliate program exists.
- We never invent star ratings, testers, or testimonials.
- Every "skip it" verdict is allowed to kill a revenue link.
How we choose products
Reviews are built from four sources, always labeled:
- Manufacturer's published claims: attributed as manufacturer claims, never restated as fact.
- Peer-reviewed research on the product class: tiered and linked.
- Community experience reports: aggregated honestly, sample size stated.
- Facts we verified ourselves: price, return policy, availability, regulatory status.
We do not run a lab. If we haven't tested something, we say so.
Where the disclosure appears
On every product page and any article with affiliate links, the disclosure appears before the links, in plain language. Links themselves are marked rel="sponsored nofollow".
Affiliate programs
We maintain a small registry of affiliate programs (Amazon Associates, merchant programs, category networks) evaluated on commission, cookie duration, conversion likelihood, brand reputation, average order value, audience relevance, and program stability. The registry is versioned and reviewed quarterly, and current programs are always listed here. At launch, the registry holds one placeholder entry: Amazon Associates is configured but no Associates account is enrolled yet, so outbound product links do not yet carry a working tracking tag and no commission is being earned. As real programs are enrolled, this section will list them.
Advertising
We do not currently run display ads, and we won't add ad networks until traffic justifies it and the ads can't degrade the reading experience. If advertising is added later, this page will be updated with a dedicated advertising disclosure before any ad runs.
