- Most headaches are not serious, but see a GP if you've tried treating one and it's not getting better or is getting worse, or you regularly get headaches.
- Ask for an urgent GP appointment or NHS 111 help if a headache comes with vision or eye problems, is triggered or made worse by coughing, sneezing, bending down or exercising, or comes with vomiting.
- Call 999 or go to A&E if a headache started suddenly and is extremely painful, or comes with loss of vision, numbness or weakness in the body or face, difficulty speaking, balance or walking, drowsiness or confusion, a seizure, or a rash that does not fade when a glass is rolled over it.
