Claims this source supports
- 'The Estradiol Transdermal System is designed to release estradiol continuously upon application to intact skin.'
- Six systems (6.5, 9.375, 12.5, 15, 18.75 and 25 cm2) provide nominal in vivo delivery of 0.025, 0.0375, 0.05, 0.06, 0.075 or 0.1 mg of estradiol per day respectively - so labeled dose is a function of system size.
- Composition of this product: an acrylate adhesive matrix containing estradiol USP; a siliconized or fluoropolymer-coated polyester protective liner is removed before use; the remaining components (acrylate copolymer adhesive, fatty acid esters, polyethylene backing) are pharmacologically inactive.
- For this weekly product, the system continuously releases estradiol across intact skin, producing sustained circulating estradiol levels during a 7-day treatment period.
- Adhesion: an open-label study of placebo transdermal systems corresponding to the 6.5 cm2 and 12.5 cm2 sizes was conducted in 112 healthy women aged 45 to 75, applied weekly on the upper outer abdomen for 3 consecutive weeks. The label notes lower abdomen and the upper quadrant of the buttock are the approved application sites.
